When an empire strikes back it's likely with the expectation that it's swatting a fly. Sometimes the underdog is able to win even though the empire looks like an 8000 pound gorilla that can smash anything in its path. These tortured allusions to movies and wildlife don't do justice to the strange battle brewing in the nascent sport of electric motorcycle racing. As noted in earlier reporting the old simple story (TTXGP and FIM collaborating to create…

Scientists have identified some geological feature in the Antarctic that, combined with already rising sea levels, will cause a sudden collapse sometime in the not-so-distant future. They've identified two specific glaciers in west antarctic that are way past their tipping point beyond which collapse is unavoidable. Their estimate is 50% collapse within the next 100 years.
Collapse of glaciers into the ocean causes sea level rise. The melting of sea ice does not cause sea level…

According to Dr Andy Thorpe of Portsmouth University, a herd of 200 cows produces more greenhouse gas in a year than a family car produces to drive 3,000 miles.
Dr Thorpe added that while CO2 emissions have increased by 31 per cent in the past 250 years, methane has increased by 149 per cent over the same period.
Farm animals create methane emissions in 2 ways. Animals like cows, sheep and goats are ruminants, which means that they are grass-eaters.and during their normal…

Quick, picture a cow in your mind…what do you see? If you’re like most people, you’ll picture a cow contentedly grazing in an endless expanse of green grass.
Cows have eaten grass ever since the first cows walked the face of the Earth. This is because they are ruminants. Ruminants eat GRASS. Their digestive systems are designed specifically to digest GRASS.
What happens when you feed a ruminant grains? They gain weight really fast. That’s also what happens when you eat a…

I do not intend to instill fear in anyone. Fear is counterproductive. However, it is necessary to state with clarity and vision the wanton destruction that is occurring on this beautiful planet. It is absolutely imperative that the following information be assimilated and acted upon NOW or life as we know it will not survive another 60 to 70 years. This is a fact, not an opinion. I don't sugar-coat distasteful subjects, nor do I tread lightly when the future of our children and our planet are…

Sixty BILLION TONS of plastic are produced every year. That's 60,000,000,000.
All plastic products are made from petrochemicals. As the name implies, a main ingredient in petrochemicals is OIL.
The average American uses 290 pounds of plastic every year.
Every hour Americans use and discard 2.5 million plastic bottles, totaling 22 billion a year.
According to Greenpeace, of the 25 billion pounds of plastic the US produces each year just 1 billion is…

The amount of energy needed to produce the millions of pounds of toxic chemicals that we consume in the form of processed foods is ENORMOUS. In return we reap cancer, obesity, heart disease and destruction of the environment. On the other hand if we consume plain, fresh, unprocessed foods using sustainable agriculture and animal products from grass-fed animals, we reap health for ourselves, our pets and our planet.
Which do you choose?
We have already discussed the fact…

Take a look around the room you’re in. You’ll probably see lots of plastic stuff. But petrochemicals are in almost everything, not just plastics.
Phthalates make perfumes stick around longer so they’re in just about everything scented. Scented candles, air fresheners, cleaners, you name it. Phthalates can interfere with the normal sexual development of a fetus or infant. Studies have linked phthalate exposure in infants, especially males, to reduced testosterone and reproductive defects.…

I don't follow Feinstein very closely but I do understand her reputation is a bit mixed. Anyway I read an article about a bill she's introduced where the effect is to scuttle solar energy deployments in the Mojave in the name of wildlife protection.
I've got two links to blog posts below. The one about offshore drilling is from the Interior Dept hearing held in San Francisco in April. During that one Feinstein and other west coast political leaders gathered to say NO-WAY-NO-HOW to…

Over the summer Vectrix went into bankruptcy announcing that their assets would be purchased by "New Vectrix". Vectrix made the first commercial highway speed electric motorcycle and delivered their first motorcycles in 2007. However they never had enough sales to keep the company going, ran out of money, and went into bankruptcy. It's now known that GP Batteries has bought New Vectrix and the Vectrix assets apparently with the intent to restart the company.…

The International Energy Agency (IEA) has released their yearly World Energy Outlook report for 2009. This report is used by governments and corporations worldwide for planning energy policies and purchases. This years report is very sobering on several levels.
The primary purpose of the report is to show the state of the oil, natural gas and coal industries and give recommendations. This years report makes it clear that peak oil is a reality and that drastic steps are…

This week at the SEMA trade show in Las Vegas, Mavizen unveiled the TTX02. It is an all electric superbike meant to jumpstart teams that want to compete in the TTXGP race series. 130 miles/hr and a range more than enough to make it around the Snaefell course on the Isle of Man. It's exciting.

I bike with my daughter on the crossbar of my road bike all the time, much like you see this with this guy and the girl in front:

I think it's kinda funny that I don't have an actual picture of us to share, but such is life... Don't worry, my passenger gets a helmet, something soft and fitted to sit on, sits straight on, not side-saddle, and has a place to set her feet. My tires aren't flat, but that's about the only thing that isn't currently…

I love biking to work and home. On the heavy traffic streets there is too much pollution from the cars, trucks, buses, and ultility vechicles. Even here in Portland, OR. School buses in the morning are scary-aggressive! Large vechicle drivers: please try to accelerate as smoothly as possible, you're wasting 20% or more of your fuel on those pointless fast-breaks from a stop. If you had to do the work instead of the engine then you'd go easier on…

EcoSpeed I tried 2 of these out and wow! No joke: wow! One was a lenghened for cargo/kids upright style bike and the other was a recumbent ttrike. Pretty fun! Great prices too. Now I know what to save for! (The cargo bike!) And I'd be home in about 20 minutes even being tired after work!

Enjoying our waterways in clean and green boats not only helps the environment but eliminates the high cost of gasoline which is making it more difficult for the public to go boating. Zero emission boats are here today in a variety of stylish and functional models. Pedal power is a healthy way to enjoy boating and electric power can be even more environmentally friendly when solar power is used to charge the batteries. These boats will not pull skiers or tubers, but they are real boats that are…
