I know a couple of Unpollute members are chicken keepers... One guy I spoke with about recently did think it was worth it, but was surprized by some of the hassles and extra work, but he thought the eggs were great. Replacing the ones were killed and the ones that have stopped laying is his biggest dicision. He told me 4 chickens was a pretty good number for his family, but on average 2 per year would have to be replaced, and he probably won't replace anymore at this point. If the whole family was into it with him, he'd continue, he said. Store-bought is easier, and there are organic free-range chicken eggs available.
