Well, amazing enough, my job is making microchips at an On Semiconductor manufacturing plant in Gresham, Oregon. They are working hard to promote their green-ness, which jives with me if they can prove it! They have a "smart" power strip which detects off equipment and kills any vampiric energy loss to TVs and such... but I have never heard of any actual product that pulls that off with any Wi-fi or internet control. It'd be funny to kill power to the modem with an internet connection, I love it! Sounds like a great product! Patent you're idea and get rich! (Good advice for myself about some of my ideas, too.)

I've heard of some systems that intelligently control household energy for when nobody's home that have internet and timing controls... give me a bit and I'll find it. I'm thinking about a "Living With Ed" show from the Green Channel (A Discovery Channel station)... that's where I saw it!

Hey, thanks. And welcome again!

Link one blog post about a remotely switched surge protector

and a link to the Smart Strip by BITS

Link to a remote controlled plug device.

but interestingly enough there's not a Wifi controlled or smart in any way power pass-though device for a homes wall plugs or a power strip with WiFi. Nice idea! I hope you pull it off! You'll be rich, and we could all have "Green Plugs" Do the simple one first (small wall plug fitting that makes it Wifi controlled for On-Off switching), then go for a super smart design that will replace all the billions and billions of power supply AC-DC adapters/transformers packaged with every electronic product sold. The smart one, in my opinion, should have outputs for AC (standard prongs) and DC (USB and Ethernet ports - international standards already) to the correct voltage and amperage as detected when a device is plugged in and turned on. A good product like that would become the new standard. That translates to incalculably huge savings in home and business electricity use and the cost of manufacturing packaging and and delivering all those adapters. see Green Plug and there's and Alliance too...

best best wishes -e

Checking in: did my info help or send you in the right direction? Those Green Plug guys look like there going to have a software app for device to communicate with the plug... that sounds harder to pull off than your idea.
