UnPollute

Forward to the Zero Emissions Future

Unpollute is a path to a Zero Emissions future because here we explore many ideas and solutions, together, to mitigate the three main sources of Air Pollution from the public (and businesses) -- Pollution that is currently completely normal from people just living their lives and working.  The three main sources? Our Transportation methods and needs, our Food needs, and Energy needs for our homes and yards (and businesses).

This site is about advocating alternative transportation ideas, better food sourcing, and zero emission energy production and storage.  I hope the site will provide lots of answers to all the varied questions out there about alternative transportation, sustainable food, and Zero Emission Energy production, and living with less environmental impact in
general. It'll be a community of people who support each other in the
quest to clean up the environment and become healthier
. I'm constantly adding my own personal solutions for commuting issues (bike bike bike!) with tips from my experiences, and I'm hoping to build some powerful online tools to enable people to find their own best solutions, methods, and products. There's useful links to environmental news and green living articles, and you can post more links or hints here, too!

I hope this site can inspire people to find ways to help the environment and save money. Don't leave it all to me -- join up and add your input, we all need your knowledge, ideas, great finds, and even products if your selling zero emission or other "green" stuff (free advertising)!

If you join Unpollute.ning.com you'll get your own free and customizable web page, your "profile," and any content you add to any of Unpollute's tabs will automatically show up, nicely linked, on your page. Your page also lets you add more features and widgets and enables blogging as smoothly as I've ever seen it. Also Uploading pictures from Flickr or your computer or mobile unit is fun and easy. Most places on the site have comment boxes where you can share your own personal experiences, tips or ideas, links, or just photos and videos or interesting and funny stuff from around the web.  Remember to Sign Up and then Sign In so you'll show up on my approval list for the network.

I hope this site will provide lots of answers to all the varied questions out there about alternative transportation (and sustainable food, and Zero Emission Energy production, and living with less environmental impact in general) and become a community of people who support each other in our quest to clean up the environment and become healthier ourselves.

Alternate Transport’s Alternate idea…

Monday, November 17th, 2008 | Author: Emett Stasiuk

What’s going to motivate Americans and others to bike, walk, run, skate, mass transit and otherwise wheel around without polluting?  Money!  Likewise, to eat healthier, exercise and care more about the environment in general… Money again.  When families are struggling to keep off the streets and jobs are scarce, environmentalism falls to the wayside as a silly luxury for the well-to-do.  While not true in the long run, because sustainability literally saves, we must be safe and fed before we care.

I think giving money is the best way to make it clear that people can be trusted to make better decisions if only they were given a good reason (such as: 10 years to plan and set up the Zero Emission economy as per Al Gore and the We Can Solve It group) and the monetary opportunity.  It’s just that right now people don’t have an extra 50 dollars to get their bikes fixed or buy enough lights to feel safe in the dark.

With this site we can show them that there are other choices to cars and junk food and offer help.  Here's my plan: a simple gift card that enables purchasing qualified products and services would be an ideal use of carbon offset donation money and carbon credit monies from polluters.  Carbon offset money that stays local instead of being shipped off to fix the environment elsewhere.  Elsewhere can be a hard place to prove they're fixing things enough to offset our pollution here!  This fixes air pollution closer to the source.  It would be a boon to the jobless and poor, heck, Unpollute money could be the start of many new careers, if not just the start of a new mode of commuting or eating for all who are interested.  And who isn't interested in free money.  This would encourage spending and sharing for Zero Emission products.  This would be a great resource for the less needy and even for businesses, so often reluctant to spend money even to save money in the future, or needing a guiding hand in making greener product choices… But this is more important than just saving money (and gas), this a chance to save our world’s future.  The Unpollute Gift Card program will start small and local, and then we’ll see if it can work on a national level!

I see this program as being more effective than current bike share programs that are gaining popularity in cities around the world, because of the many weakness due to non-ownership in those programs.  Bike sharing is a good idea for visitors, people vacationing and wishing to take a tour. But the limited or zero choice in bikes, bikes not able to take you from door to door as they should, make it a tough sell for a city’s commuting needs.

And further, this program is a cash charity, not a coupon, rebate or tax-credit so it is truly a grassroots effort.  It takes nothing away from anybody.  It helps you buy a new bike, among countless other things.

With a little education on the choices out there and the cash to try something out, I believe that Americans could cut back on many many driving trips -- that is the ultimate in carbon offsetting!  Other green products and services to be included are often already rated by multiple agencies as to their relative CO2 footprint and other environmental concerns in fantastic detail, so judging will be simple and fair.  Qualification is highly biased against large polluters, but it is still fair, since any business, large or small, could take steps to get their own products and services to qualify.

So, join this social networking site for fun, green info, to help, and be more inspired and motivated.  Invite friends to grow the site, and post away.  We love links, photos, videos, reports, ideas, blogs, and Forum discussions, and comments from everybody.

If your city is looking at a Bike Share program, maybe they could look at funding Unpollute, too!  For so many, access to a bike is not an issue, it's caring for it and buying the kind of gear that makes that bike into a car replacement option for commuting, shopping, and family transport that breaks the bank.  Getting those people riding is my "Carbon Offset" of choice...

Biking Sharing programs are a good idea for promoting biking and inner city vitality, anybody ever use one?

Time's-a-ticking... Portland is looking at throwing $2 mil at a bike sharing program... Unpollute could take that and make more of a carbon footprint impact for Portland, with more flexiblity. I wonder if a Bike Sharing program would draw tourists to Portland, though... well, they'll still have to do all the bike maintenance and figure out the helmet issue. Unpollute solves both automatically, ha!

Of course,  Bike share and wildly popular e-scooter share are now a thing... and they do seem to have a place in our  air pollution solution set!   Hope you have a Smartphone...  what about those of us without? And there's still too many cars --  Unpollute is not displaced, in fact, goes to show that another set of creative options  is in need of our kind of  grass roots free-money support.  Therefore money for a ride-watch or ride-phone or for any of the existing sharing programs could qualify.  E-car "uber" rides could also qualify.  However, the sharing program stuff is kinda like a little bridge in terms of an Individual's transportation needs, even in a city like Portland.  I'd like to support a Bike Library...
